So as the summer takes that noticeable downturn......and school is looming ahead;-) I decided these last two weeks were not for to do lists, some appointments sprinkled in, but earmarked for adventure....and soaking up these final moments with my crew.....and so yesterday I impulsively pulled the trigger on a bucket list spot we have had on our radar for awhile.....hiking Ricketts Glen! I have heard amazing things, and it has amazing ratings all up and down the east coast for its picturesque hiking, and rave reviews, and and so I rented a cabin for us for tonight, and we are going to hike it tomorrow before we head home.....the cabin is by a little lake and it is quiet, and lovely looking.....and I have food to pack for us, and firewood to have a little fire....and well.....it feels just perfect. Exactly what we need.....soul soothing adventures are my favorite.......and it is a substantial hike.....over 6 miles depending.....but we are here for it.....and when I saw the weather was supporting my soul's nudge I was all in.....I have been wanting to do it all summer but the heat has been oppressive....so this week looked like it was just perfect for that plan:) I have also wanted to take my kids camping in another cabin, like we did in Watkins Glen, we really loved that.....so it is sort of a two bird bucket plan:) And I have loved how the hallmark of this time in our lives, since their dad has been gone, being a time of intentional adventuring.....even for a day or two.....often........and we have had some bigger adventures, and some smaller ones.....and they have all been my favorite.....memories that will serve us all forever....I would much prefer to spend my money on experiences for them than things.....I turn 50 next May, and am hoping we get to do our big west trip.....but this little getaway didn't cost much and it will pay off in such big ways.....I say it often, but mean it so deeply.....the forest holds medicinal powers.....magic and healing lies among the trees....and especially when there is a new one, the anticipation of what is ahead and new to see is my favorite......and I think Ricketts Glen has over 20 something waterfalls....and then on Friday I want to take them to the ocean for the day.....they will be going in a couple of weeks without me but I want to share an ocean day with them:) We have school shopping next week and perhaps the Crayola Factory.....I have wanted to take Mads there forever....her little artistic self;-) I also am having a graduation pizza party for Gabe and his friends on Sunday:) It was an impromptu plan, but I did not want it to go by without honoring him! I have a lot of financial commitments coming my way, things that need to be paid for and taken care of, so it is a balancing act, but gosh I am blessed to be able to balance it all! Every single day I am grateful for the gifts found in my life, my teaching job, and through my business and its growth, allowing me to live the life I wish to live with myself and children, Amen:) So adventure was calling to us and we answered the call! I am excited! :) Stay tuned:)
