Lake Champlain is a fascinating place....it is enormous....and spans so much, and it is really beautiful.....feeling like the ocean some.......Staying at this lake house is reinforcing my desire for my own one day....my retreat space....and how much living on a lake calls to me....and my soul......and this all always feels like foreshadowing if you will;-) There is a certain stillness beside a lake that for me isn't present anywhere else.....even at the ocean......a peace.....I plan on going down to the little beach we have here this morning, and doing my meditation there:) A good place to manifest future goals indeed;-) So yesterday we set off to explore the lake on the Burlington VT side, we have been staying on the NY side.....and we took a ferry over by car and that cut a big portion of the trip.....we headed to Burlington and arrived right in time to get our tickets and grab lunch before we boarded the boat.....it was a lovely lunch by the water....and the sun was shining, and the humidity was not to be found, perfection:) We then boarded the boat and got a tour of the lake.....the tour guide announcing over the radio..... sounded like Casey Kasem, it was funny and uncanny some....but he shared the rich history of the lake, and how it had been discovered.....we saw people cliff jumping at certain points and saw some of the islands....some where people live.....and the mountains were some of the most beautiful I had seen....it was not very crowded and just a beautiful and easy way to spend an afternoon......the guide also shared the lore of 'Champ" that had been sited living in the lake.....sort of Loch Ness monster vibes;-) And the tour boat we took, one of the earlier versions of it, had had a sighting in 1984.....70 people saw this mythical creature! While attending an anniversary party....It was all very fascinating....so of course our eyes were peeled for Champ;-) And it is so cool here that we are between the two states and so close to Canada.....lots of varying opportunities for the folks that live here, and also for tourists....Then we got back to the place we were staying and had a visit with the owner....and learned much of his story.....how he arrived at this beautiful place... a little slice of paradise.....his two children are around Mads' age and she had great fun playing with them last night.....all of them getting along and enjoying their time together......it was interesting to hear his tale.....and I am not sure I ever tire of walking some in other's stories as we journey on......he has several rental properties......and has had a very interesting life.....coming here from Canada.....a place he always thought he would live....until life took him elsewhere......and so today we go home.....a short little getaway, but one that was so good for the soul.....pouring great memories into us all.....just what we needed mid summer. I have a few more adventures up my sleeve over the coming months....my kids will get a week away at the OBX....I won't be able to join them because of work......so they will be going with my parents.....I am happy and grateful they get to go.....I am tied to the contract at my school for that week before school starts.....but I am thrilled for them that they will get to go despite my limitations this time:) My goal for the remainder of summer is to seize all the opportunities it provides, and make the most of every minute:) Today I head home with a grateful heart indeed for the last couple of days, just perfect, in all the ways:)
