Magic is my favorite.....addicted if you will;-) And it can be found in the ordinary.....a moment that suddenly becomes elevated.....or a span of moments.....and part of it is the eyes you view the world through.......bringing the magic;-) Part of it is being mindful of it all.....soaking every bit of it in......and part of it is some magical hue that the world sometimes takes that allows you to touch it......and I got to share some more magic with my kids last night....we went to see Cyndi Lauper at Bethel......I absolutely love Bethel.....the feeling, the energy of it......all of it....and Cyndi was amazing.....one hundred percent herself....fierce and fun....and quirky as hell....and a fierce advocate of women.....and people.....and celebrating all we are as a collective of humans.......and sharing that with my kids was amazing.....Mads was captivated by the uniqueness that is Cyndi Lauper.....very similarly to how I was at her age.....my first three albums were Cyndi Lauper "She's so Unusual"......Michael Jackson "Thriller"......and Madonna "Like a Virgin".......and they were all iconic in their own way....but something about Cyndi resonated.....and last night I understood....she gave an early shoutout to all the "Goonies" of the world....and well....that is it for me....I am so fond of the "Goonie" folks in my life....considering myself one too, walking to the beat of a little different of a drum.....a little quirky.....working hard to fiercely be ourselves and understood for that....believing the world should be LIVED in.....experiencers and seekers of magic:) And my kids I suppose are also Goonieesque if you will too;-) And Cyndi told stories last night of her life....amid her music, as this was her farewell tour....and she talked about growing up.....watching all the women.....feeling sorry at the time for the limited rights they had....being raised by a single mom that could not get her own bank account initially without a husband or father to sign off on it.....no credit card till 1971......all of those things....and watching the women toil and do all the work for the family, and wondering if they had dreams too....beyond that.....and that really touched me....that speaking to her, and thinking wow she made it out of that neighborhood and slayed her dreams!!!!.....and she gives no "you know whats".....just fiercely her odd little self....even at 72, which she did not seem at all.....my kids marveled at that.....and so the night was magic....but there was one point that just was pure magic.....she had us all light our flashlights....and then turn around and look.....just a sea of light.....reminding us of remaining united.....and remembering that we are light......and then she sang "Time after Time".....and Mads had my phone and was waving the light....she is all about concert vibing;-).....she was also all up in the volleyball that got tossed around:) And I just stayed present in it.......looking around.....on the Bethel Lawn.....beautiful summer night.....and seeing the sea of light, and singing my heart out to the song.... that is one of my favorites......and I had both hands over my heart, eyes closed some....it is something new I have been doing, sort of to capture a moment.....I do it at church too during the final song:) I think it comes from meditating.....lots of times having a moment captured that way.....and I just stayed present.....not videotaping it......just experiencing the magic in it.....letting my hands on my heart filter it in there, to fill me up:) And my kids were beside themselves at the power of it......a sea of singing light:) And boom there it is:) Intentional magic......recognizing it......living it....soaking it in.....and music is one of the loves of my life....no question......I can't get enough of it most of the time....and sharing live music with my kids now in this chapter.....concert hopping.....well......I love that we share this love.....one of the vendors gave me a site to get a huge discount on tickets the day of at Bethel, so I am even further in:) It is such a great venue and a treasure, right here.....If you are a lover of music, you know the concerts you have attended.....and being able to build that resume and memory bank within my kid's memories and mind is magic too:) Girls Just Wanna Have Fun after all:) Happy Saturday!!:)
