I decided since I have felt so much benefit from blogging daily, to actually explore the benefits of journaling.....and doing so daily.....it is the consistency piece for us all that I think is paramount.....in anything we do.....the things we do regularly, and with discipline, are the ones that change our lives for sure:) So I looked into it and here is what I found, in case anybody else is interested in beginning to write daily to hear themselves:) The benefits of journaling daily are improved mental health, improved self awareness, better perspective, improved communication, increased creativity, better goal achievement, enhanced critical thinking, and better memory........and I have found each of those to be true in my own experience....writing first thing when I wake up, has been a practice that has served me well along this journey......it helps untangle the thoughts and feelings that happen internally.....giving me a space to really hear myself......in a way I haven't before......and that has been paramount.....some days what I write about feels deeper or more profound to me, and other days it is the mundane.....but there are many times that in one keystroke I hear myself in a way I didn't before.....or have an epiphany.....an aha......and it has been so healing along the way.....I am sharing this today to encourage you to do the same......to grab a journal and jot some thoughts down.....I have a beautiful leather bound journal that a friend gave me....and I may start journaling at the end fo the day before bed for a few minutes....my handwriting is not great....and I have grown to like typing a lot....but it may be a new way to hear some of what goes on.........I am feeling forever grateful for the typing class I took in high school, that was indeed a skill I could take with me into the world......but I am willing to play some with doing that.....I set some goals for myself this week and I am achieving some.....falling short on others.....so I am revamping my approach some to make sure I meet the things I want to do......feeling a sense of increased discipline coming to find me, and am heeding it.......so I am working on those things.....some related to fitness, finance.....nutrition....and so much in between.....if writing or journaling appeals to your sensibilities at all......grab one and get started today!
